About SAIL Executive & Non Executive
The Hindustan Steel Limited (HSL), which was established on January 19, 1954, is where SAIL got its start. At first, it was made to handle just one plant that was growing at Rourkela. The Iron and Steel Ministry carried out the preliminary work for the Bhilai and Durgapur Steel Plants. From April 1957, the oversight and control of these two steel plants were likewise moved to Hindustan Steel. In the beginning, New Delhi served as the registered office. In July 1956, it moved to Calcutta, and in the end, it moved to Ranchi in December 1959.
On January 29, 1964, a brand-new steel company, Bokaro Steel Limited (Bokaro Steel Plant), was established to construct and manage the Bokaro steel plant. By the end of December 1961, both the Bhilai and Rourkela Steel Plants’ 1 MT phases had been completed. After the Wheel and Axle plant was put into operation in January 1962, the 1 MT phase of the Durgapur Steel Plant was finished. HSL increased its crude steel production from 1.58 MT in 1959–60 to 1.6 MT. Following the commissioning of the Wire Rod Mill, the Bhilai Steel Plant’s second phase was completed in September 1967.
In February 1968, the Tandem Mill, the final unit of the 1.8 MT phase of Rourkela, was put into operation. In August 1969, the Furnace in SMS was put into operation, and the 1.6 MT stage of Durgapur Steel Plant was finished. As a result, HSL’s total crude steel production capacity increased to 3.7 MT in 1968–69 and to 4 MT in 1972–73 after the completion of the 2.5 MT Bhilai, 1.8 MT Rourkela, and 1.6 MT Durgapur stages. IISCO was taken over as an auxiliary in 1978 and later converged in 2006.
