Apple is expected to take the wraps off the watchOS 9 at the keynote address of WWDC 2022. The event is scheduled for June 6. The next-generation operating system is rumoured to get several new features and improvements. One such big update that Apple is reportedly working on for the watchOS 9 is the refreshed watch face library. As per a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new watch face library may be accompanied by a revamped Power Reserve mode.
Currently, when the Apple Watch is in Power Reserve mode, you can only access the time. The report suggests that watchOS 9 will expand the features and apps that you can use when the watch is in Power Reserve. The report further suggests that Apple may also add more health-related features in the next-generation operating system. The features that the company is expected to add includes expanded sleep tracking, medicine management, additional running metrics and others.
Gurman previously predicted that 2022 will be the biggest year in the history of Apple Watch as the company may launch three new smartwatches – a regular model, affordable SE model and rugged model for athletes. Previously it was rumoured that the upcoming Apple Watch models will get a new blood pressure monitor, however, the report suggests that we may have to wait a bit more for that feature. Gurman predicts that we may not be able to see any such sensor in Apple Watch till 2024 as the company is facing issues related to its measurement accuracy.
Apple will also reportedly discontinue the Apple Watch Series 3 this year. According to known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the smartwatch may meet its end of life in the third quarter of 2022. Although the tech giant has stopped selling Apple Watch series 4, series 5 and series 6. The five year old Apple Watch series 3 managed to survive all these years as an affordable alternative next to Apple Watch SE.
