iOS update: Apple explains why these iPhone users get iOS update several weeks late – Times of India

Whenever Apple rolls out a new iOS update, it is not automatically available to all users even if you have enabled the Automatic Updates option. However, an update can be accessed quickly when you manually try to install the latest build by heading into Settings > General > Software Update. Apple never revealed why the users who don’t manually check for updates get it later, until now.
With a similar question in mind, keen iPhone user Mateusz Buda mailed Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi. In his mail, Buda mentioned that he had turned on the Automatic Updates option but he did not receive the update notification for latest iOS 15.4 even after two weeks of the launch. “What conditions must be met for this function to work? Automatic app updates does work – it takes like 3 days maximum after update release to update my app so no problem there.” Buda wrote in his mail.
To his query, Federighi replied explaining why auto-updates are often slow. “We incrementally roll out new iOS updates by first making them available for those that explicitly seek them out in Settings, and then 1-4 weeks later (after we’ve received feedback on the update) ramp up to rolling out to devices with auto-update enabled. Hope that helps!”
Recently Apple rolled out iOS 15.4 for iPhone users. The update comes with new improvements and features that were teased by the company at the WWDC last year. The update also brings a new functionality to the Face ID security feature which now allows users to unlock their iPhone even with a mask on.
Apart from this, Apple has added support for a new ‘Tap to Pay on iPhone’ feature. For those who don’t know, the feature allows iPhones to use their NFC to accept payments through contactless credit and debit cards, digital wallets and Apple Pay without pairing any additional hardware.
